Warehouse Decay

Questions

Does this photographs reduced saturation change the mood of the photograph? If so, in what way?

Does the depth of field adjust the mood? If so, in what way?

What does the viewpoint of this photograph suggest?

  1. The aspect that I like the most about this photograph is the soft ambient lighting that hits the pallets and creates a harsh shadow. The flaking paint on the container door suggests urban decay. This whole photograph shows a very moody decaying area.

  2. I think the reduced saturation makes the photograph look more decayed. If the colours were too bright the image would look too new, not decayed.
I think the contrast between the pallets which are made from newer wood makes the door look older and more decayed in comparison.

  3. The reduced saturation makes the photo feel much more dreary, as if the photo itself is on the edge of raining. This desaturation has aso given much of the photo a blueish tint that cools down each of the colours. These tints can be seen predominantely on each of the metal surfaces, for instance the edge of the door, and this gives the impression of a weathered down material. Because of this the feel of decay is enhanced.

  4. Low saturated colours suggest a disused, worn and old setting. The blue colour towards the top right suggests that the photo was taken on a chilly evening as there is minimal light and no specific sunlit shadows on the objects. This helps enhance the weathered objects.
I am intrigued by the compostion, the fact that the ajar door is concealled behind old objects to the left leaves me guessing as to what is behind it.

  5. The use of reduced saturation does change the mood of the photograph, it makes the photograph feel quite dull and eerie.
The depth of field makes you feel as if you're actually there taking the photograph.
The viewpoint makes me feel as if I want to walk into it and see what's behind the corner.
